Making a joke about stalker ex-boyfriends, the comedian known as AO hides behind a chair during Last Comic Standing at KatHouse Wednesday night.

After the nine competitors had taken the stage at The KatHouse Lounge’s Last Laugh comedy competition, five remained and one emerged as a fan favorite and a frontrunner for the top prize.

Last Laugh is a last-man-standing style elimination competition.

Aspiring comedians perform each week, and a panel of judges pick their favorites to move on to the next round, until a winner is crowned.

Luke Hansen, a junior in marketing, earned the biggest laughs of the night, and seemed like the audience’s favorite comedian.

Natalie Grossenbacher was in the audience Wednesday and said she thinks Hansen, who is known on stage as “The Colonel,” has the best chance to win.

“The Colonel is my favorite,” she said. “He relates really well to all the students, because he is the ultimate Kansas boy.”

Most of Hansen’s jokes related to being from a small Kansas town, and seemed to hit home with the audience.

“It seems like a lot of people can really understand his perspective on things,” said Karie Albert, a senior in advertising.

She said she thought Hansen had the best fan support and the best chance of winning.

“He’s got a lot of friends here, but there are also a lot of other people here that think he is really funny,” Albert said.

While the audience gave him a vote of confidence, Hansen said he thought he bombed at first.

“I didn’t get the laughs I got before,” he said. “In the end, I guess I thought I did OK.”

Last Laugh is the first time Hansen has performed stand-up comedy. He said he hopes to win but is just glad to get the opportunity to perform.

“I think I have as good of a chance as anyone else,” he said. “It’s hard to say, because everyone up there was pretty good.”

The fourth and final round of the competition will be at 9 p.m. Wednesday at KatHouse. The winner will receive $1,000, and the opportunity to be the regular host of KatHouse’s comedy night on Thursdays.

The competition, which is sponsored by KatHouse, 101.5 K-Rock, Z96.3, Miller Lite and The Library Discount Liquor, started with a field of 17 competitors Oct. 30.

2nd round of KatHouse's Last Laugh narrows field to 9

As part of Last Laugh, a stand-up comedy competition, Adam Rigdon, senior in social sciences, shows the use of his artificial leg as a "walkie talkie," to hold his cell phone as he drives. Rigdon was one of 13 comedians who had five minutes to perform their bits on the stage at KatHouse Lounge. The event was sponsored by K-Rock 101.5 and Z96.3.

For the second straight week a group of hopeful comedians took the stage at the KatHouse Lounge. And for the second straight week several of the comedians failed to win over the audience or even capture its attention.

The comedians competed Wednesday night in the Last Laugh competition, sponsored by KatHouse, 101.5 K-Rock, and Z96.3. The competition is a last-man-standing style contest, where the winner takes home $1,000 and the right to host KatHouse’s Thursday comedy nights.

Wednesday night started with 13 comedians in the competition. After each comedian performed for five minutes, a group of judges conferred and whittled the group of comedians down to nine.

“Rough crowd tonight,” said J.C. King, the contest’s host. “We had a lot of really funny comedians up here tonight, but I guess they didn’t think they were too funny.”

King said he thought the comedians deserved more respect from the crowd.

“[The comedians] have vastly improved,” he said. “Every week as we narrow it down they just keep getting better and better.”

Cody Detrick, who also is moving on to the next round of the competition, said he didn’t mind the crowd.

“Up front they were a little rough,” he said. “I like a rough crowd though, it helps me learn.”

Detrick performed stand-up for the first time last week, and only wrote his material Wednesday morning.

“Honestly I thought I bombed completely,” he said. “I appreciate the judges giving me the opportunity to move on.”

Despite performing in front of an unruly and occasionally inattentive crowd some comedians were able to fill the room with laughter.

Luke Hansen, who was known on stage as simply “The Colonel,” was one of the crowds favorites.

“I thought the crowd was great,” he said. “They really got behind me when I was up there.”

Hansen heard some of the best laughs of the night, and looks to be a favorite in the competition, despite performing comedy for the first time.

“I don’t want to be cocky, but I think I have a good chance,” Hansen said. “Winning would mean everything to me. It would be a real stepping stone.”

The competition’s first round was Oct. 29 with 17 competitors and saw four comedians eliminated. The winner of Last Laugh will be announced Nov. 19, when KatHouse hosts the final round of the competition.

Last Laugh competition kicks off

Glass bottles clanging, ice rattling in tumblers, friends conversing: the normal sounds of an Aggieville bar were interrupted intermittently by laughter Wednesday night at the KatHouse Lounge.
The bar hosted the first round of Last Laugh, a comedy competition that pitted 17 comedians against each-other in a last-man-standing type of competition.
The comedian who gets the last laugh, and wins the competition, will win $1,000 at the finals on November 19, at KatHouse.
Each of the comedians performed for three minutes on stage, trying to impress the crowd and a group of judges. The judges eliminated four comedians at the end of the night, leaving their 13 favorite to compete for the next stage of the competition.
While several of the comedians earned huge laughs, many couldn't win over the audience, or even break out from under the crowd noise.
"It takes a lot of bravery to get up here and get in front of a crowd that big," said J.C. King, one of show's hosts. "I was up there for a little while and it was tough. I didn't think there would be that many hecklers."
The crowd filed in before the 9 p.m show and was lined out the door as the show started.
"I'm so happy with the turnout," said Shawn Rock, who also hosted the show. "I think a lot of people in Aggieville are ready for something different like this."
Mary Renee, a former K-State student, was one of the crowds favorites comedians. She is a comedy veteran in Manhattan and has opened for Tracy Morgan at a Union Program Council event, and hosts Rocky Horror Picture shows in Manhattan.
"This is a lot different because you get eliminated," she said. "There's a little more pressure than the other things I do."
Renee said she had never perfomed at KatHouse but had watched comedy there before. She said the bar supports comedy well.
"I think I did pretty well, and I think the crowd is pretty good," Renee said. "There is an amazing number of people here. For a Wednesday night, it is a very good crowd."
The group of five judges included local stand-up comedian, Tom Mahoney, two local radio show hosts, and a representative from K-State Athletics.
The comedians who survived the first round of Last Laugh will perform again at 9 p.m. Wednesday at KatHouse. Four more comedians will be eliminated after that show.
The final round of the competition is scheduled for Nov. 19.

A prefab group masterminded by producer Frank Farian, where he assembled a collection of studio musicians to record his fusion of European dance-pop and American Rap.

The esemble lacked "image", so a pair of aspiring models/break dancers, Pilatus and Morvan were brought in to front the outfit.

They did not actually sing the material, merely lip-syncing the songs.

Girl You Know It's True was their lead-off single and it became an instant hit, peaking at #2. The next three follow-ons, Baby Don't Forget My Number, Girl I'm Gonna Miss You and Blame It on the Rain all hit #1.

They won a Grammy in 1990. And then the unthinkable happened... Pilatus and Morvan, now giddy with success (and wired on cocaine) wanted to actually sing on the next record and Farian blew the lid off the whole deal.

A fracas ensued, they were stripped of their Grammy's and unceremoniously dumped into the dustbin of pop-culture.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Arista records deleted their record from it's catalog (the biggest selling delete bin item on record) after a class action suit was filed by disgruntled album purchasers.

Farian attempted to reform the duo in 1991 as "The Real Milli Vanilli releasing Moment of Truth which promptly stiffed.

Pilatus called reporters and police to his hotel room in Los Angeles where he was threatening to kill himself.

The duo reformed again as Rob and Fab in 1993 and again, the record tanked, selling a mere 2,000 copies despite an appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show.

Pilatus hit the skids in earnest, entering various drug rehabs and having a string of run-ins with the law for charges such as assault. He was found dead in a Frankfurt hotel room in 1998.

Fabrice Morvan lives in New York and continues to pursue a solo career.

Pro Wrestling superstar in the 1980s, former WWF Heavyweight champion.

As a World Wrestling Federation (WWF) performer from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s, the Ultimate Warrior was known for his high-energy ring entrances, which featured him racing into the arena at full speed, bursting into the ring, and violently shaking the ropes up and down. He was also known for his distinctive pattern of face paint.

Warrior enjoyed two stints as Intercontinental Champion, defeating The Honky Tonk Man (in 31 seconds at the first ever SummerSlam in 1988) and Rick Rude at SummerSlam 1989. The Warrior was heralded as the wrestler to become the biggest star of the 1990's, and the successor to Hulk Hogan, who had remained wrestling's biggest star since the 1980's. Following a few confrontations with Hogan, most notably at the 1990 Royal Rumble, the Warrior was written in as Hogan's opponent for WrestleMania VI.

Compared to Hulk Hogan, who had held the title for 4 years in the 80's, Warrior's title reign seemed all too brief, and this significantly damaged his reputation as Hogan's successor. This damage was compounded by Warrior being denied the chance to regain the title from Slaughter later that year at WrestleMania VII. Hogan was given the title shot instead, defeating Slaughter to regain the title he had lost to Warrior. Warrior, meanwhile, had to make do with revenge over Randy Savage, who he defeated in an earlier match on the same card. Considering the time and effort invested in making Warrior the top star in the company, WWF's decision to separate Warrior from the title, then keep him out of the main event at Wrestlemania VII, was both surprising and not clearly motivated. Subsequently, Warrior would never fully regain his career momentum.

Warrior formally retired from wrestling in 1999, and has found a new career as a conservative speaker and commentator, denouncing left-wing politics.

On September 27, 2005, WWE released a DVD documentary focusing on Warrior's retrospective wrestling career, entitled The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior. The DVD featured clips of his more notable feuds and matches along with commentary from WWE stars past and present (many of which are unflattering). The DVD has provoked some controversy due to Warrior's own allegations of libel by WWE against him. Originally, Warrior was asked to help with the production of the DVD, but as he refused to work with WWE (citing he did not want to be associated with their promotion), there has been some resulting animosity between Warrior and WWE over the content with Warrior claiming bias on the part of WWE.

Warrior maintains a blog on his personal website entitled "Warrior's Machete", where he discusses his personal life, his personal views on politics, sexuality, patriotism, and his legacy as a wrestler, amongst other topics. There have been numerous instances where Warrior has used the blog to address his viewpoint on members of his wrestling past (Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger); historical figures (Martin Luther King, George Washington, Jesus); and celebrities who were newsworthy at the time of the blog (Heath Ledger, Paris Hilton). He has also used the blog to post replies to letters from fans - both positive and negative.

Frontman for the rock group Journey, who lasted for 14 years and whose breakthrough album Escape yielded 3 top 10 singles and sold nine million copies.

WHERE IS HE NOW?

Dropped off the face of the earth. After a 10 year hiatus, Steve Perry and Journey reformed in 1996 and created the album Trial By Fire.

Shortly after the album was finished, Perry was hiking in Hawaii in training for the upcoming tour. During this hike, he injured his hip. In summary, the tour never happened. Many inside the band's circle disagree on whether or not Perry's injury was actually true however it is just about universally agreed that Perry changed his mind after the reunion started and did not want to tour. Many reasons have been stated but the most prominent being his voice has changed too much from his younger days and he can no longer sing the high octaves he used to. Whether or not the injury was real or made up, most believe he used the hip injury as an excuse to indefinitely postpone the tour.

Perry stated his physicians were recommending a hip replacement and he was unsure what to do so he did nothing. The other band members waited two years (until 1998) for Perry to make a decision. They ultimately got tired of waiting for Perry and reformed the band without him.

Since then, Perry has pretty much dropped off the face of the earth. He enjoys his privacy and goes to great lengths to sustain it. Now and then a snippet may appear from a credible source saying Perry will be back, most believe he never will.

June 2004: Journey is back touring but without Perry. He has been replaced by vocalist Steve Augeri

August 2004: This is belated, but a few people have pointed out that Perry worked on the music soundtrack for the Charlize Theron smash Monster. Theron and filmaker Patty Jenkins mailed Perry asking his permission to use the song Don't Stop Believing, he ended up meeting them and assisted in re-mixing the soundtrack.

While reading National Geographic, Mr. T first noticed the unusual hairstyle, for which he is now famous, on a Mandinka warrior.[2] He decided that adoption of the style would be a powerful statement about his African origin. It was a simpler, safer and more permanent visual signature than his gold chains, rings, and bracelets. The gold jewelry was worth about $300,000 at the time and took him about an hour to put on. Most nights, Mr. T spent even more time cleaning them using an ultrasonic cleaner. Occasionally, he would sleep with the heavy neck chains and bracelets on, "to see how my ancestors, who were slaves, felt."[3]

In 1980, Mr. T was spotted by Sylvester Stallone while taking part in NBC's "America's Toughest Bouncer" competition—a segment of NBC's "Games People Play." [4] His role in Rocky III was originally intended as just a few lines. His catchphrase, "I pity the fool!", comes from the film, in which he played a boxer facing Rocky Balboa. When asked if he hated Rocky, he replied, "No, I don't hate Balboa, but I pity the fool." After losing out on the role of the title character's mentor in The Beastmaster, Mr. T appeared in another boxing film, Penitentiary 2, and in a cable television special, Bizarre, before accepting a television series role on The A-Team.

Mr. T appeared in an episode of Silver Spoons, reprising his old role as bodyguard to Ricky Stratton. In the episode, he explains his name as "First name: Mister; middle name: period; last name T." In one scene, when Ricky's class erupts into a paper ball throwing melee, Mr. T throws his body in front of the objects, fully protecting his client. In The A-Team, he played Sergeant Bosco "B.A." Baracus (B.A. is an abbreviation of "Bad Attitude"), an ex-army commando on the run with three other members from the U.S. government "for a crime they didn't commit." When asked at a press conference whether he was as stupid as B.A. Baracus, he observed quietly, "It takes a smart guy to play dumb."

A Ruby-Spears produced cartoon called Mr. T premiered in 1983 on NBC. The Mister T cartoon starred Mr. T as himself, the owner of a gym where a group of gymnasts trained. He would help them with their training but they would also help him solve mysteries and fight crime. Thirty episodes were produced.

In 1984, he made a motivational video called Be Somebody... or Be Somebody's Fool!. He gives helpful advice to children throughout the video; for example, he teaches them how to understand and appreciate their origins, how to dress fashionably without buying designer labels, how to make tripping up look like breakdancing, how to control their anger, and how to deal with peer pressure. The video is roughly one hour long, but contains 30 minutes of singing, either by the group of children accompanying him, or by Mr. T himself. He sings "Treat Your Mother Right (Treat Her Right)", in which he enumerates the reasons why it is important to treat your mother right, and also raps a song about growing up in the ghetto and praising God. The raps in this video were written by Ice T. That same year he released a related rap album titled Mr. T's Commandments.

In 1988, Mr. T starred in the television series T. and T.. Mr. T was once reported to be earning around $80,000 a week for his role in The A-Team and getting $15,000 for personal appearances.

WHERE IS HE NOW?

Unfortunately, not too much has changed. Mr. T still looks like Mr. T (gold chains and all)

He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1995 and has rarely worked since, undergoing daily chemotherapy treatments.

More recently he appeared in a 1-800-collect commercial.

He beat the lymphoma in 2001 and is back working. In April 2003 he filed suit against Best Buy for illegally using his image in their products.

Reportedly starring in Christain-themed movies and is born-again.

In 2005, Mr. T stated that he would never wear his chains again, "No, T, you can never wear your gold again. It's an insult to God". He arrived at this decision after seeing the effects of Hurricane Katrina. However, he has been seen wearing some chains for several commercial appearances, such as the 2007 U.K. and Ireland Snickers advertisement, and the 2007 World of Warcraft ad. Mr. T donated a great deal of clothing and money to Katrina victims

However, was one of the first few to "embrace" the psychic tv phenomena (he advertised for a company back in the late 80's to early 90's), and only recently got paid for the commercials (rumoured to be a payout in the region of 12 million dollars)

Like Don Johnson, he also tried his hand at singing, but was rubbish (can anyone even remember the name of his album?). However, he has 5 different daughters from 3 different "girlfriends" , so that should keep him er occupied for a while.

And like most other faded and jaded heroes, he has also ended up doing voiceovers for a few PC games too...

n 2001, Coleman was employed as a shopping mall security guard in the Los Angeles area. A surveillance video of Coleman trying to stop a vehicle from entering the mall while the driver ridiculed him was broadcast on numerous television shows.

Coleman played a supporting role in the controversial 2003 computer game Postal² by Running With Scissors, Inc. Coleman, who played himself, appeared at a shopping mall, and one of the game's objectives was to secure his autograph. Coleman's role was almost certainly based on a 1998 incident in which Coleman punched a fan who sought his autograph while he was at a shopping mall. Upon the player securing his autograph, police storm the mall to arrest him for an unknown crime, which leads to a violent shootout. Coleman was also featured prominently in the 2005 expansion pack to Postal², Apocalypse Weekend.

Coleman was a candidate for governor in the 2003 California recall election. This campaign was sponsored by the free newsweekly the East Bay Express as a satirical comment on the recall. After Arnold Schwarzenegger announced his candidacy, Coleman stated that he would be voting for Schwarzenegger. Coleman placed 8th in a field of 135 candidates, receiving 14,242 votes.

Coleman was featured in the 2004 season of The Surreal Life. He managed the restaurant at which the other cast members worked.

Gary Coleman had a brief appearance on Family Guy in the episode Brian Goes Back to College. He had replaced Stewie since he owed him a favor.

Coleman has also appeared in a clip of Robot Chicken.

Coleman secretly wed his girlfriend of five months, Shannon Price, 22, on August 28, 2007. They met on the set of the 2006 comedy film Church Ball.

As of April 25, 2008, Coleman is currently in divorce court. On May 1 and May 2, 2008, Coleman and his wife appeared on the show Divorce Court to air their differences in front of Judge Lynn Toler.

In 2008 Coleman had a short-lived baseball career after being signed by the Madison (WI) Mallards of the Northwoods League. Many felt Coleman would bring the mid-season boost the Mallards needed. From 1995 to 2004, he starred in a video series and annual touring performances as the Christian superhero Bibleman, although he has since retired from the role.

In 2005, he appeared on VH1's Celebrity Fit Club 2, where he lost 19 pounds. Aames is one of the more notorious contestants to appear on the show, after a huge blow-up with the trainer, Drill Instructor Harvey Walden IV. Aames gained weight at several of the show's weigh ins, but still managed to lose 10.2% of his body weight. Since appearing on the show, Aames has found a passion for hunting, and has his own hunting program on TV. MANHATTAN, Kan. – Former Kansas State forward Michael Beasley has been nominated for the ESPY for “Best Male College Athlete,” as the organization announced the nominees for the 16th annual ESPY Awards presented by HUMMER on Tuesday.

The recent No. 2 pick by the Miami Heat in the 2008 NBA Draft, Beasley was one of three players nominated for the award, along with Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow of Florida and Wooden and Naismith Award winner Tyler Hansbrough of North Carolina.

Fans can help Beasley win the ESPY by voting online at www.espys.tv starting Tuesday. For the fifth consecutive year, fan will determine the winners in all categories except the Arthur Ashe Courage Award (1968 Olympic medalists John Carlos and Tommie Smith), Jimmy V Award for Perserverance (former Buffalo Bill Kevin Everett) and Best Comeback (Texas Ranger Josh Hamilton).

Hosted by Justin Timberlake, along with a host of top athletes and entertainers, the two-hour event will be televised Sunday, July 20 at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN from the new NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE, a world-class 7,100-seat venue located across the street from the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

Beasley compiled one of the greatest seasons ever by a college freshman in NCAA history, as he averaged 26.2 points on 53.2 percent shooting (307-of-577), including 37.9 percent from 3-point range, with 12.4 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.3 steals and 1.2 assists in 31.5 minutes per game this season. He posted the second-most rebounds (408) by a freshman in NCAA history, trailing just the record of 462 set by Nevada’s Pete Padgett in 1972-73, while he collected the third-most points (866) by a freshman behind LSU’s Chris Jackson (965; 1988-89) and Texas’ Kevin Durant (903; 2006-07).

Beasley led the nation in six categories, including rebounding, double-doubles (28), 40-point games (three), 30-point games (13), 20-point, 10-rebound games (23) and 30-point, 10-rebound games (13), while he ranked third in scoring. He is just the third freshman in NCAA history to lead the nation in rebounding, joining Loyola’s Kenny Miller (1987-88) and Louisiana Tech’s Paul Millsap (2003-04). He also became just the 11th player in NCAA Division I history to post 28 or more double-doubles in a season and the first since Wake Forest’s Tim Duncan collected 29 during the 1996-97 season.

Beasley earned numerous accolades after the 2007-08 season, including National Player of the Year honors from both CBS Sports.com and Rivals.com and National Freshman of the Year honors from CBS Sports.com, Rivals.com, CollegeHoops.net, The Sporting News and U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA). Beasley holds 30 Kansas State career, single-season and freshman records as well as 17 Big 12 single-game and single-season marks. He is both the school’s and conference’s all-time single-season leader in scoring average (26.2 ppg.) and double-doubles (28), while he owns school single-season marks for points (866), rebounds (408), most 30-point games (13), most 20-point games (26), field goals made (307), free throws made (216) and free throws attempted (279).

Beasley and company helped Kansas State post a 21-12 overall record in 2007-08, including a third-place finish in the Big 12 with a 10-6 mark. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly 12 years and captured its first NCAA Tournament win since 1988 with their 80-67 victory over USC in the first round of the Midwest Regional in Omaha, Neb., on March 20. The team has now posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in nearly 20 years, while the 10 conference wins tie the 2006-07 squad for the best league record in the Big 12 era. The third-place finish is the best since the inception of the Big 12 and the highest since the 1988-89 team finished third in the Big Eight.

Beasley is the first player to be drafted at Kansas State since Steve Henson went to the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 1990 draft, while he is just the eighth player in school history to be selected in the first round. He is the third highest draft pick in school history following Howard Shannon (1949; Providence Steamrollers) and Bob Boozer (1959; Cincinnati Royals), who both were selected with the No. 1 pick in their respective drafts. He joins Mitch Richmond (No. 5 to the Golden State Warriors in 1988) as the school’s only lottery picks (first 14 selections) since the system was implemented in 1985.

Beasley catches elbow, leaves 1st Heat practice

AP - Jul 2, 2:05 pm EDT NBA Gallery MIAMI (AP)—Michael Beasley’s first official practice with the Miami Heat ended quickly.

Beasley was struck in the chest by an inadvertent elbow during a defensive drill about 45 minutes into Miami’s first summer-league workout session Wednesday, and the No. 2 overall pick in last week’s NBA draft was taken to a doctor for observation.

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said the move was strictly precautionary and should not affect Beasley’s availability for Miami’s five-games-in-five-days run through the Orlando summer league, which opens Monday.

“He took a shot to the chest,” Spoelstra said. “He probably could have finished if it was the regular season or something like that, but we just wanted to be safe.”

Spoelstra said he wasn’t absolutely certain which Heat summer player was the one that struck Beasley.

“I looked and one minute he was there and the next minute he was gone,” Heat guard Daequan Cook said. “I have no idea what happened.”

The team did not immediately release an update on the extent of Beasley’s injury or what sort of tests were being performed on the rookie, who averaged 26.2 points and 12.4 rebounds last season for Kansas State.

“He was very eager to learn what we were doing, especially defensively what we wanted to get accomplished in this practice,” Spoelstra said. “When he gets back out here, he’ll be fine and when we get up to Orlando, he’ll be fine.”

Beasley was gone by the time practice was open to reporters and not available for comment.

There was one piece of good news on Wednesday for Beasley. He signed his rookie scale contract with the Heat, one that will pay him about $3.6 million this coming season.

"American Idol" finalist Kristy Lee Cook recently signed a record deal with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville.

This will be the second time Cook, 24, has signed with the label — as a teen she was signed but was dropped before she recorded anything.

Her album, which will arrive in the fall, is being produced by Brett James, who co-wrote Carrie Underwood's hit "Jesus Take the Wheel." The first single, called "15 Minutes of Shame," will be released August 11.

Cook will record the album this summer while touring with "American Idols Live." The tour kicks off Tuesday in Glendale, Ariz., and runs through September 13.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State freshman forward Bill Walker has opted to remain eligible for the 2008 NBA Draft and will forego his remaining three years of college eligibility.

Walker made the announcement on the final day underclassmen had to decide their intentions for the NBA Draft. He becomes the second Wildcat to declare for the NBA Draft, following fellow freshman teammate Michael Beasley who declared his intentions to forego his college eligibility on April 14.

“Bill has always dreamed about playing in the NBA and now he is close to fulfilling that dream,” said Martin. “We want to thank him for believing in K-State. He was one of the first players to buy into what were doing here and we will always be grateful. He gave us the confidence and the momentum to go out and start the process of building this program. He will forever be a Wildcat.”

Most national observers predict Walker to be an early second round selection in the 2008 NBA Draft, as he is projected as the 31st pick (and first selection of second round) to the Minnesota Timberwolves by www.draftexpress.com and the 40th pick to the New Jersey Nets by www.nbadraft.net. Beasley and Walker could be the first set of Wildcat teammates to be selected in the same NBA Draft since 1982 when three players – Tyrone Adams (3rd round), Randy Reed (7th round) and Ed Nealy (8th) – were drafted.

Walker averaged 16.1 points on 46.5 percent shooting (181-of-389), including 30.7 percent (35-of-114) from 3-point range, with 6.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks in 27.3 minutes per game this past season. He ranked second to Beasley in nearly every statistical category, including scoring, double-digit scoring (25), 20-point games (nine), double-doubles (four), rebounding, blocks, field goals, free throws (101) and free throw percentage (73.7). His averages were even higher in Big 12 play, where he averaged 16.6 points on 47.2 percent shooting with 6.1 rebounds in 27.6 minutes per game.

Walker earned numerous accolades after the 2007-08 season, including third team freshman All-America distinction from CBS Sports.com and CollegeHoops.net and freshman All-America honors from CollegeInsider.com. He was named to the All-Big 12 second team by the Kansas City Star, while he was a third team selection by both the league coaches and The Associated Press. He was also selected to several all-district squads, including the U.S Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District VI team and to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 12 second team.

Walker and company helped Kansas State post a 21-12 overall record in 2007-08, including a third-place finish in the Big 12 with a 10-6 mark. The Wildcats advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly 12 years and captured its first NCAA Tournament win since 1988 with their 80-67 victory over USC in the first round of the Midwest Regional in Omaha, Neb., on March 20.

With Walker's departure, Kansas State will return seven lettermen for the 2008-09 season, including five with starting experience. Sophomore Jacob Pullen will be the team's top returning scorer at 9.7 points per game, while fellow sophomore Ron Anderson will be the returning rebounding leader at 3.6 boards per game. They will be joined by five newcomers, including junior transfer Denis Clemente and redshirt freshman Jamar Samuels. Three of these newcomers - Buchi Awaji, Jordan Henriquez and Abdul Herrera - were added during the spring signing period.

The NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

CHICAGO (AP) - Federal officials hunted for the source of a 17-state salmonella outbreak linked to three types of raw tomatoes, while the list of supermarkets and restaurants yanking those varieties from shelves and menus grew.

McDonald's, Wal-Mart, Burger King, Kroger, Outback Steakhouse, Winn-Dixie and Taco Bell were among the companies that voluntarily withdrew red plum, red Roma or round red tomatoes unless they were grown in certain states and countries.

In addition, officials at the Los Angeles Unified School District - the nation's second largest - said Monday they have "indefinitely suspended" serving uncooked tomatoes.

The FDA is investigating the source of the outbreak, agency spokeswoman Kimberly Rawlings said. "We are working hard and fast on this one and hope to have something as quickly as possible," Rawlings said Monday.

Cherry tomatoes, grape tomatoes, tomatoes sold with the vine still attached and homegrown tomatoes are likely not the source of the outbreak, federal officials said.

Also not associated with the outbreak are raw red Roma, red plum and round red tomatoes from Arkansas, California, Georgia, Hawaii, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Belgium, Canada, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Israel, Netherlands and Puerto Rico.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said that since mid-April, 167 people infected with salmonella with the same "genetic fingerprint" have been identified. At least 23 people have been hospitalized.

A 67-year-old cancer patient in Texas who health officials said was sickened by salmonella at a Mexican restaurant is believed to be the first death associated with the outbreak.

The death of Raul Rivera last week has been officially attributed to his cancer, but Houston health department spokeswoman Kathy Barton told the Houston Chronicle in Tuesday's editions that the salmonella strain was a contributing factor.

Rivera's wife said he was hospitalized after eating pico de gallo, a tomato-based condiment, in late May while celebrating good news about his cancer treatment.

Salmonella is a bacteria that lives in the intestinal tracts of humans and other animals. The bacteria are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces.

Most infected people suffer fever, diarrhea and abdominal cramps starting 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness tends to last four to seven days.

The Food and Drug Administration warned consumers in New Mexico and Texas as early as June 3 about the outbreak. The agency expanded its warning during the weekend and chains began voluntarily removing many red plum, red Roma or round red tomatoes from their shelves in response.

The salmonella causing the outbreak is a very unusual type called salmonella saintpaul, said FDA Commissioner Andrew C. von Eschenbach, who added it was not more virulent than other types of salmonella.

McDonald's, the world's largest hamburger chain, stopped serving sliced tomatoes on its sandwiches as a precaution, but will continue serving grape tomatoes in its salads because no problems have been linked to that variety.

The decision didn't upset Connie Semaitis, a 49-year-old travel agent in downtown Chicago, who bought a cheeseburger and a drink at a McDonald's during lunch hour Monday.

"I'd rather be safe than sorry," Semaitis said.

Tampa-based OSI Restaurant Partners LLC, which owns and operates eight brands including Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's and Bonefish Grill, said it stopped serving all raw tomatoes other than grape tomatoes on Saturday evening. The company also instructed restaurants to discard salsa and other prepared foods containing raw tomatoes.

Burger King Corp. said it had withdrawn raw round red tomatoes from most of its U.S. restaurants, as well as locations in Canada and Puerto Rico and some other Caribbean islands. Some California restaurants continued using the tomatoes because they buy from growers in states the FDA has said are not involved in the outbreak, Burger King said.

Other restaurant operators that stopped serving most tomatoes: Yum Brands Inc. (YUM), which owns Taco Bell, KFC, Long John Silver's and A&W All-American Food Restaurants; Darden Restaurants, which owns and operates six brands including Red Lobster and Olive Garden; Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. (CMG); and Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp., which operates Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurants in 15 states.

Among retailers, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) - the largest grocery seller in the U.S. - is working with federal officials to ensure affected tomatoes are pulled from Wal-Marts, Neighborhood Markets and Sam's Club warehouse stores nationwide, spokeswoman Deisha Galberth said.

Galberth said the company is modifying orders to its stores and putting an electronic block at its registers as an added safety measure to keep the recalled tomatoes from being purchased.

Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. (KR), the nation's largest traditional grocery chain, said it pulled the three types of tomatoes from all its stores in 31 states on Sunday per the FDA advisory. The company had early last week pulled the tomatoes from stores in Texas and New Mexico.

Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. (WINN), which operates 521 stores in five southern states, also stopped selling tomatoes involved in the FDA warning, as did Publix Super Markets Inc. Publix offered refunds to customers who bought the tomatoes before they were removed from shelves.

Trader Joe's, with more than 280 grocery stores in 23 states, also stopped selling the tomatoes in question and offered refunds, according to a statement from spokeswoman Alison Mochizuki.

Giant Eagle, which has 223 supermarkets in western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland, said it also removed the tomatoes from store shelves; as did SuperValu Inc., which operates Jewel, Shaw's, Cub Foods, Acme and some Albertson's stores.
